Evidence, at a hearing in proceedings under the workmen's conmpensation act, warranted findings that an injury suffered by the employee resulted in insanity and that the employee committed suicide while insane, but did not warrant a finding that the suicide resulted from an uncontrollable impulse or a delirium of frenzy without conscious volition on his part to produce death; and a conclusion by the Industrial Accident Board, that the injury was the proximate cause of the employee's death, and an award of compensation to his widow, were not justified.

independent intervening cause. Panagotopulos's Case, 276 Mass. 600, 605. The evidence warranted findings that the employee committed suicide, that he was then insane, and that the insanity resulted from the injury. Such findings, however, are not sufficient to establish the essential fact that the suicidal act was not an independent intervening cause of the employee's death. The applicable rule is stated in Sponatski's Case, 220 Mass. 526, 530: "where there follows as the direct result of a physical injury an insanity of such violence as to cause the victim to take his own life through an uncontrollable impulse or in a delirium of frenzy 'without conscious volition to produce death, having knowledge of the physical nature and consequences of the act,' then there is a direct and unbroken causal connection between the physical injury and the death. But where the resulting insanity is such as to cause suicide through a voluntary wilful choice determined by a moderately intelligent mental power which knows the purpose and the physical effect of the suicidal act even though choice is dominated and ruled by a disordered mind, then there is a new and independent agency which breaks the chain of causation arising from the injury." The employee's wife testified that on Sunday, the day before he committed suicide, "about nine o'clock he started to walk again and she started to notice he was starting to change in his mind ... he started to become troubled- she meant he was becoming crazy. He said to pray for the damned and started to make the sign of the cross and pray and he reached his finger up in the air. He was saying that and walking in the house and then didn't talk much afterwards; he was walking, he was too nervous and couldn't
In any case, the religious portion of the Tea Party loves Perry's approach to government: get God involved as often as possible. Drought in the state? Pray for rain. Rain doesn't come? Pray harder, you heathens! And tithe until it hurts! Rain still doesn't come, triggering state-wide wildfires? Pray God will put those out by parting the Red Sea. Budget debt have you singing the blues? Pray, pray, pray. Hell, you can even join the Bachmanns and unsuccessfully pray the gay away.
Cain's big plan is his 9-9-9 plan: Nine large pizzas, nine toppings, $9.99 each. No, wait. That was at his last job. His CURRENT 9-9-9 plan is a relatively simple, straightforward increase in taxes on poor people and giant tax cut for rich people and corporations. It's also known as the "Let them eat cake" plan, except the cake has been replaced by a pile of flaming dog feces, and it costs you 18 percent of your minimum wage income to get a whiff of the aroma.
Timing is everything. It's only a week or two past the High Holy days. If only I had known of this potential problem then, I would have included the cure of a small, non-invasive tumor in my fervent prayers, at the peak of their strength because of my holiday zeal. But wait a minute -- He must have known. And surely He has the power to predict that I would have included their elimination on my wish list. I feel better already.
So I prayed. My friends and family prayed. Had the Holy Temple been in existence, I would have jumped on a discounted flight to Jerusalem, bought a fat, non-discounted sheep in the Temple courtyard, and let the Cohanim roast him to a turn on the altar. There are no atheists in foxholes (as we said in World War II) or in operating rooms. I just didn't like the way my doc looked away from me.
Whatta way with words! How skillful in communication -- with the verbal nuances of a professional diplomat. He should represent us at the UN. Doc's golden tongue would get that Iranian Devil -- that reincarnation of Haman -- to swap his nuclear labs for a two-week vacation in Miami Beach. Ah, the power of prayer and a life of virtue.
The scene from India has been described in apocalyptic terms. Indeed, the images of funeral pyres burning in city streets and the long lines of COVID-patient filled ambulances desperate for bedspace in over-crowded hospitals are surreal. Yet, these images depict the reality of our siblings in India suffering the horrid effects of a double-mutant COVID-19 variant. Real people, real suffering, real lives lost, real heartbreak. As people scramble in India and around the world to assist in this crisis, we can feel helpless thousands of miles away. Yet, there are some things we can do. Check-in on your India-American neighbors, colleagues, classmates, and friends who may have family or friends in India and offer them emotional support or a listening ear. If able, give funds to a reputable social service agency on the ground in India. (If you are looking for one, Lutheran World Relief is serving in India and other countries in dire need ) And finally, join us in Campus Ministry in prayer.
In the spirit of unity, justice and change, we offer a prayer for the community supporting the Karen people in Myanmar and all people who suffer in chaos, violence and forced relocation as result of the Myanmar Civil War and advocacy for Human Rights.
I pray that anyone who has reservations or hesitancy about taking the vaccine will have some of that same strength and hope to put their faith and confidence that the government has learned from their mistakes. And that healing is a touch away!
God of justice be gracious to all who align their hearts and minds to be in agreement with this prayer. Be gracious with those who do not. We ask that you listen to the hearts of all who are suffering during this time of Pandemic, season of change, anticipation of justice denied, and also those who suffer in silence. We pray for health and wholeness, for peace yoked to justice, for all who labor tirelessly on the frontlines of this fight against the Covid-19 virus. We pray for care and comfort for the families and loved one of the 520,000+ victims who have lost their lives to this virus. We pray for the many people who are being strategically and systematically denied their rights to exercise their rights to vote and participate in a democratic society.
We thank and praise you, Mothering Father God, for you are a God of justice, blessed are all those who wait for you. Be gracious we pray in the name of Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit, comforter of all.
Healing is most definitely humane. It is truly insane, not to be hopeful - no shame.Heterogeneous is the name.Harmonious is the game.Passionately made with love to be uniquely different and yet the same.Everyone play nice.
In days and in hours we find a way where healing happensAfter death and destruction plunges the confused world intoA humane response understood to be a hopeful and harmonious signOf an ethnically heterogeneous population taking charge at lastLong time coming out of the darkness and debilitation of racismEverywhere all the time in every particle of the air we breathe it livesWhere no water is allowed for parched voters waiting in lineTold no. no we do not want you to exercise your right. You vote the wrong way. So no, no water. Stay home next time.
Torn from loving family ties by grand lies, education was a prize to be sought. In cruel schools, they were caught, stranded, scorned, often raped insane, again and again. So many tried to escape the pain, the hateMany more cried day and night, forlorn.
There is also a fabulous café culture in Tel Aviv, and in the summer, cafes are packed in the mornings with people sipping iced coffees and reading the newspaper. On weekends, brunch is the way to go restaurants are jam-packed on Friday mornings, with insane waits for prime outdoor tables (and indoor air-conditioned seating, as well).
I would be a liar if I said that I didnt take pleasure in a Tel Aviv summer; after all, people tend to fall in love with this country because of its summers (think Birthright). That being said, I am anxiously awaiting a drop in temperature and an equally-magical, just as interesting, Tel Aviv fall.
While the appeal supra was pending in the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals, petitioner, pro se, on September 23, 1959, filed another handwritten petition for writ of habeas corpus in this Court. (Case No. 12534.) In that petition, he alleged, among other things, that he was imprisoned in the Medical Center for Federal Prisoners, at Springfield, Missouri, "under the color of Section 4246, Title 18, U.S.Code"; that he had been so imprisoned since June 20, 1958; "that he is, and always has been, in actuality, sane * * *."; "that he is innocent per se, of any crime * * *; that there is a long and complicated background to his predicament, which petitioner cannot present in this petition, because of the conditions of his imprisonment * * *; that he can present overwhelming evidence that he is competent to be tried * * *; that he was exonerated of insanity by a jury in his home town fifteen days before the United States made (sic) him insane."[2] The prayer of that petition was: "That this Court conduct a hearing so that petitioner may present what evidence is lacking in the instant petition; that petitioner may be returned to his committing court for either trial, commitment under Section 4247, Title 18, U.S.Code, or commitment *537 to the insane asylum in the State of his residence." 2ff7e9595c
