Follow the tutorial as normal and then rather then connecting via console in GNS3, open the putty locally and copy the \\.\pipe\VBOX\ under the serial port setting of your instance, then open the putty, select serial connection and paste the \\.\pipe\VBOX\ in the Serial Line and press connect and press enter couple of time and wait for a couple of sec, it may be take little bit longer, so be patient.
